The Testing Protocol

Shade Patch is evaluated under AATCC 183-2000 and AS/NZS 4399-1996 — the same international standards used for certified UPF protective clothing.

A calibrated UV light source shines through the textile. A detector measures what passes through. The result: 99% of UVB and 90% of UVA are blocked.

While no adhesive is 100% waterproof under extreme conditions (prolonged submersion, rough waves, or high-pressure water), Shade Patch is designed to stay securely in place during normal water activities like swimming, surfing, and sweating. We recommend applying to clean, dry skin and pressing firmly for 10 seconds before entering the water. Most customers enjoy full-day wear including multiple ocean or pool sessions.
